Publishing, production, and investment for storytellers

The Weight of Ink

Project context

One parent identity for many kinds of creative work.

The Weight of Ink is a boutique publishing, production, and investment company led by writer, poet, and entrepreneur Michael Albanese. The business brings books, films, hospitality, investments, charitable giving, and creative connections under one name.

The name began with Michael’s observation that a completed journal weighed more than an empty one because of the ink inside it. Studio FLACH turned that idea into a brand and Webflow site that could introduce the company, explain each branch, and preserve the character of each venture.

The starting point

A visual language drawn from ink, paper, and the written word.

The project started with the physical idea behind the name: ink adds real weight to paper. The mood board translated that thought into an editorial direction built from serif type, grayscale, open space, ink textures, and the irregular energy of printed matter.

Early studies set ordered reading beside small moments of surprise, including the dropped dot beneath the i, asymmetric page references, and occasional fields of color. This gave the website a starting point that felt literary, modern, and personal.

Website structure

Begin with the origin story, then let visitors choose a path.

The site opens with the literal and metaphorical meaning of the name, then offers routes into Publishing, Producing, Staying, Investing, Giving, and Connecting. Each page answers a different set of questions while retaining the same parent story.

Open space, irregular alignment, light and dark treatments, and image-led sections give the experience an editorial pace. The page plan gives books, films, a creative cottage, investments, and charitable partners enough room to feel specific instead of reading like one service list.

The final website

A digital page shaped by ink, paper, and storytelling.

The finished Webflow site treats the screen like a written page. The wordmark gives Ink more weight, the dropped dot beneath the i acts as a small signature, and typography, spacing, and imagery carry the idea from page to page.

Across laptop and phone screens, visitors can move from the origin story to a chosen branch, explore the publishing catalog and film work, review investment interests, learn about giving partners, or contact the company. The pages remain related without making every venture look the same.

Outcome and project scope

One recognizable home for every branch.

The Weight of Ink has one parent identity and a direct route into each part of the business. Visitors can understand what the company is, learn why it exists, and choose the branch that matches their interest.

Webflow gives the team a practical base for books, films, properties, partners, and future ventures. The verified result is structural and visual: a clear parent story, distinct branch pages, responsive coverage, and an active site that still follows the original system.
